MSI Outreach: Undergraduate

Yeast schmooing process.
The Molecular Sciences Institute focuses on genomics, the study of the nucleotide sequences in an organism. Specifically, we work with the DNA of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, or common baker’s yeast, because it contains many conserved protein pathways with humans and it is an easy eukaryotic organism to manipulate. Our overall goal is to create a quantitative model that can accurately predict protein interactions (for more information, please view our mission statement).

If you are interested in our work, please visit our publications and news pages to learn more about MSI’s latest developments.

We encourage students like you to pursue their interest in the field of genomics at their undergraduate institutions. If you are a UC Berkeley student, consider taking L&S126, a course taught by Dr. Roger Brent, MSI’s president and research director. Moreover, please look at our genomics resources page, which includes links to valuable online tools and education sites about genetics and genomics.
