Current Open Positions at MSI
Postdoctoral / Mid Career Transition Fellows
The Center for Quantitative Genome Function (CQGF) seeks
exceptional minority scientists in the fields of biology,
chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics, and computer
science to work on the Alpha Project, an interdisciplinary
effort in genomics. The fellowship is open to recent Ph.D.
graduates and mid-career researchers seeking to transition
into genomics research.
Supported by a grant awarded by the National Human Genome
Research Institute (NHGRI), the Alpha Project brings together
a team of investigators from various disciplines to work
on an initiative that combines genomic experimentation with
computation to develop models that accurately predict the
behavior of biological systems. This level of biological
understanding will deliver insights that can enable development
of precisely targeted treatments for disease.
The core of CQGF is the Molecular Sciences Institute located
in Berkeley, CA. Fellows may also conduct short term research
projects in specific laboratories at the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology; California Institute of Technology; and Pacific
Northwest National Laboratory.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, along
with a cover letter explaining their background, goals, and
what they expect to contribute to and learn from the Alpha
Project. The applicant must send this correspondence to fellowships@molsci.org.
Do not contact Dr. Brent directly. Questions can be directed
to Leonore Reiser at 510-981-8738. The applicant shall also
request three letters of recommendation to be sent on his/her
behalf. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Technicians and Research Fellows
Effective immediately, The Molecular Sciences Institute
has openings for a highly trained Technician and Research
Fellow to work on a newly developed means to detect and quantify
small numbers of arbitrarily designated molecules. It is
likely that this work will prove useful in the detection
and quantification of molecules for medical diagnoses.
Technician requirements.
Successful experience with both recombinant DNA techniques
and the expression and purification of proteins. Typically,
candidates have an undergraduate degree.
Research Fellow requirements.
Ph.D. in the life sciences and demonstrated real accomplishment during
their Ph.D. work, as evidenced by significant published papers. Candidates
should have previous experience in nucleic acid manipulation and protein work,
and will typically have experience in protein design and engineering. The fellow
will be expected to lead in the design and development of new geometries and
platforms for protein-based recognition molecules, protein aptamers and other
protein molecules derived from or inspired by antibodies. The fellow will lead
efforts to express, select and use these new molecules.
Applicants for the Research Fellow should send a curriculum
vitae along with a cover letter explaining their background,
their goals, and what they expect to be able to contribute
to the above work. Research fellow applicants should give
names of references and cause formal letters of recommendation
to be sent on their behalf. Applicants for the Technician
position should include an employment history and names
of three references.
Applications should be submitted to:
