I am interested in how signal transduction systems encode
and transmit information, and how to quantitatively modify
these behaviors. This involves measuring the details of system
behavior, such as quantities of signaling intermediates, and
using these data to inform models, varying in scope and resolution,
of different aspects our primarily model eukaryotic signal
transduction system, the yeast pheromone response system. I
am developing and using tools to measure system activity, focusing
on those that give data in single, live cells. I am also interested
in higher-resolution molecular and structural details of the
system components- both their structures and their interactions.
