I am interested in the general hypothesis that cellular signaling systems exploit their intracellular spatial features such as molecular crowding and protein localization to optimize their functions. I am studying signal response characteristics of the Alpha pathway by combining computer simulation and in vivo measurement techniques including fluorescence correlation spectroscopy. One of my long-term goals is development of integrative technology for whole-cell scale modeling and simulation at the molecular level.  I am the creator of the E-Cell System, a multi-scale, multi-algorithmic cellular simulation platform, and a core founder of the E-Cell Project. I am continuing active involvement in the project through development of the next version of the E-Cell System (version 4) at MSI. I am a Human Frontier Science Program Fellow.
